Our aim for this seminar is to educate Lawyers, Accountants and Financial Planners on how to raise and discuss philanthropy with their clients, how philanthropy is changing in the 21st Century and your vital role in that change.

The event is about encouraging and developing the dialogue that many find difficult to start. It is about how supporting preferred charity now can benefit your clients financially and on a person and community level.

It is of benefit also to the charities/ charitable causes to connect with donors. Each year and with each change in government so does the support the charities receive. Such changes can, as we all know happen overnight and are often hard to budget for. This can significantly affect the operational capacity of the charities in our community. In order to help us in our times of need, we need to be able to help them in theirs.

Philanthropy isn't just about bequests in Wills, you don't need to wait until you have passed to make a difference to your community/ charity and charitable cause. What is stopping your clients from supporting them now?

The guest speakers for the seminar is Ms Kim Sutton, CEO of the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation and Mr Martin Fisk, CEO of Menslink.

Ms Kim Sutton – CEO Gold Coast Hospital Foundation

Kim Sutton, Foundation Chief Executive Officer, has led successful charities in the UK and Australia since 2001. She has a wealth of experience in charity strategy, management and income generation – both philanthropic and commercial income. .Kim has a real passion for working with the community to develop strong partnerships.

Ms Sutton will cover the following areas in her presentation:

• The power of major gifts and Gifts in wills to deliver real impact to organisations and the Australian NfP sector

Martin Fisk – CEO Menslink

Martin is the Chief Executive of Menslink and joined in March 2011 after a twenty-five year career in both the private and public sectors, including nearly ten years running his own business and a few years as a senior Federal Public Servant. Since joining Menslink, he has significantly expanded the reach of our direct support programs, more than quadrupling the number of young men accessing our free counselling and mentoring services

Mr Fisk will cover the following areas in his presentation:

Kim Sutton holds the global Fundraising Executive Certification (CFRE) accreditation which is available only to fundraising and philanthropy professionals with significant experience and knowledge in the sector. She has facilitated gifts worth millions of dollars to help community causes achieve their purpose. She has spoken and presented hundreds of professional development, training and advice sessions at conferences and events; in the UK at Foundation for Social Improvement, Directory of Social Change and Institute of Fundraising events and in Australia for the Fundraising Institute, Girl Shaped Flames and Oxfam.

Background:

A true philanthropist, fundraising is in her genes and her love for the industry started when she was recognised in the top 10% of fundraisers for the Deserted Children's Foundation, Victoria, two years in a row at the tender age of 14. Since 2001 she has successfully led teams in some of the world's largest purpose-led organisations such as Action for Children and Oxfam to achieve income and impact growth. She loves using her experience and skills to help her peers learn and grow. In her role as Director for the Foundation for Social Improvement, for three years, she delivered literally hundreds of conference, training and mentoring sessions to help thousands of fundraisers from small charities across the UK improve their strategic and fundraising skills to achieve better efficiency and sustainability. In this role she also provided advice to philanthropists on suitable charities to direct their funds.
Kim has been on the Fundraising Institute of Australia QLD committee since January 2016 and is currently Deputy Chair. During this time she has also volunteered on the FIA National Conference committee in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In both of her FIA roles she regularly speaks on topics such as major gifts, corporate partnerships and gifts in wills.

An active campaigner for young men, Martin speaks to schools, businesses and community groups across the region about issues facing young men, their families and communities, including family violence, mental health, drugs and suicide – still the leading cause of death in men under 40.

In 2012, Martin designed the award-winning Silence is Deadly campaign to reduce the stigma of admitting to problems and encourage more young men to get help when faced with troubled times. This program has been successfully rolled out to tens of thousands of students across high schools, colleges and universities across the Canberra region and has resulted in significantly more young men opening up about their hassles in life and getting help when they need it.

Martin is currently the Vice President of the ACT Council of Social Services (ACTCOSS) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

A father of two daughters, he spends his spare time attending dance competitions and going bushwalking, cross-country skiing and running when he can.
