JACS4GreaterGood Supports Cancer Council ACT

Celebrating community giving with empowered employees and workplace giving.

Cancer Council ACT

We were delighted to visit Cancer Council ACT at their welcoming Deakin office to personally deliver a donation from the JACS4GreaterGood workplace giving fund. Greeted by Verity & Mark and guided in by a cheerful daffodil on the sign, we were reminded of the hope and strength that Cancer Council ACT brings to so many in our community.

We were there on behalf of the JACS4GreaterGood workplace giving fund to present a cheque to Cancer Council ACT, chosen by our contributors as a recipient of the fund’s income distribution for the 2025 financial year.

The JACS4GreaterGood initiative is driven by the generosity of our colleagues who contribute regularly to support causes that make a meaningful impact in our community. Cancer Council ACT’s dedication to cancer prevention, support, and research resonated deeply with our team, making them a natural choice for this year.

GreaterGood’s long-standing relationship with Cancer Council ACT continues to make a lasting impact. Since inception, Cancer Council ACT has been the proud recipient of five memorial funds established by generous individuals through their wills:

  • Johanna Wyld Memorial Fund
  • Anna Oszlanszki Memorial Fund
  • John and Elizabeth Woodrow Memorial Fund
  • Colin C Telfer Memorial Fund
  • Benny Therp-Olesen Memorial Fund

These perpetual funds ensure that Cancer Council ACT receives ongoing annual support forever. In the last financial year alone, nearly $60,000 was donated through these memorial funds, helping sustain vital services for people affected by cancer across the ACT and surrounding regions.

After perusing their shop which has the BEST hats, sunnies and sunscreen, we were shown their beautiful, sunny Wig Services Room. A warm and welcoming space where around 200 people each year receive support after experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment. In this private and comfortable setting, trained staff assist individuals in selecting from a wide range of wigs, turbans, hats, and beanies to suit their personal style and needs. It’s a deeply compassionate service that helps restore confidence and dignity during a challenging time.

We also learned about their vital phone support service, available through the 13 11 20 Cancer Council Information and Support line. This service assists approximately 250 people in the ACT and surrounds every year. This service is available five days a week, offering confidential guidance, emotional support, and practical information. Whether it's patients, their families, friends, or carers - Cancer Council ACT is there to provide a listening ear and expert advice when it’s needed most.

Another standout service is the Cancer Liaison role, where healthcare professionals from Cancer Council ACT provide in-person support and information to Canberrans undergoing cancer treatment, as well as their family, friends, and carers. Patients and their supporters can drop by for a chat and this informal setting can really help to bolster the feeling of support and access to information.

It was a privilege to meet with Verity and Mark and hear more about the incredible work their team is doing across the ACT. We’re proud to support their mission and look forward to seeing the positive ripple effects of this contribution.

Thank you to all the JACS4GreaterGood contributors for making this possible, and to Cancer Council ACT for the vital work you do every day.
