Justice Richard Refshauge first practiced law in 1976 when he commenced his legal career as a barrister and solicitor in the ACT. In January 2008 his Honour was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
His Honour has enjoyed a long period in private practice, first with the then leading law firm of Macphillamy Cummins and Gibson – becoming partner in 1981 and senior partner in 1992 - then Sly and Weigall and finally at Deacons Graham and James. His Honour took silk in 2000.
While in practice, his Honour specialised in litigation, including commercial litigation, administrative and constitutional law, reconstruction and insolvency, industrial law and criminal law. His Honour lectures in civil litigation at the Australian National University and has done so since 1986. In 2001 he became an Adjunct Professor in the then Faculty of Law of the Australian National University (now the College of Law) and in 2007 the Faculty of Law of the University of Canberra.
